  • Give referrals to fellow members without expectations. Although we hope to reap some reward in giving referrals, don’t make doing so the only reason you are networking. Help fellow members. Be a "giver"!
  • Keep an open mind. Never pre-judge another member’s ability to give referrals. We are eager to refer each other to our associates and others we know.

  • Communicate regularly with other members -- in person, or by phone, e-mail, fax or mail. Seek an understanding of their business goals and learn how you can help them.

  • Give fellow members information that will help them understand and use your services.

  • Communicate the types of referrals you are looking for.

  • Take time weekly to review your business card file or membership list to find leads or prospects for other members. Be of value to the group.

  • Ask for referrals! This is so important, yet most people just sit back and wait for something to happen. It doesn’t work that way! You need to ask for referrals – the names and numbers of people you can call. Ask. And ask again!

  • Always follow up in a timely fashion with any leads or referrals you receive. Return phone calls promptly.

  • Always be appreciative of referrals given to you. Remember to thank anyone who gives you a referral.

  • Appreciate that even if you already do business with someone, you can double the amount of referrals when you formalize the relationship

  • Take personal responsibility for building Scripps Tips. Always be asking yourself "Is this person a good candidate for our group?" Carry Scripps Tips business cards and brochures, and introduce other business people to our group. After all, each new member is a potential source of referrals for you. Imagine the impact if each member would bring in just one new member! Always be on the lookout for qualified, ethical business people who hold themselves to a high level of personal accountability in whatever they do! These are the kind of people we want in Scripps Tips!
